Personally, the image reminded me of pic related, Azathoth. The fact that Heath didn't even know whether it was "alive at all" makes me think that it was in a deep slumber or something and does weird shit while it's dreaming. The fact that Heath "met someone in a dream" or some shit and wrote a page of schizophrenic scribbles while sleeping/unconscious could also hint towards that.
The fact that it names the "Terastal" phenomenon and it's general appearance has could mean that it's also loosely based on a Tarasque or similar creatures from Iberian folklore. I think this is probably more about the appearance though.
