You gotta remember, these games aren't very good by modern standards. Nothing about these games hold a candle to modern JRPGs, but they still sell because the competitive has an intense and rich history and a big enough community to base itself on, along with the pokemon universe which is a great setting, it basically sits as the foundation of the brand on why nobody can really abandon this franchise.
But if the games are ass and the only good thing that makes them sell is the world itself, then people will waste more time talking about the characters and lore than the game itself. But the lore this time around SUCKS DICK, so people will try wrapping their heads around and make sense of this bullshit until the sun explodes. It would be way better if they just outright told people or we had an actually popular anime to explain this shit clear and sound.
