The only things that really differs in gen 1 designs, when compared to the gens 2 to 4, is the simplicity of colors and patterns on the body.
And gen 7, 8 and 9 dont look natural at all when compared to the First 4.
And also many designs from 5 dont fit either, but some are fine. I think gen 6 somewhat corrects that, with most exceptions being its legendaries and starters.
