>>42230544The question was why don't people think phones are an issue for any other console, just Nintendo's stuff. I said it was because the other's aren't competing in the mobile space. The specs do matter, because that's what they use to market their consoles against each other when the games are the same. The others do have exclusives that are big console movers for their audience, but it's not the center of their business strategy unlike Nintendo that relies heavily on 1st party games and exclusives. For the past few generations of hardware everyone's arguments have been about specs and saying the other side has no games. You are correct that in practice specs don't matter, but people do still care otherwise they wouldn't be building their marketing around it year after year. PCs aren't currently a threat to consoles, as I already mentioned and you seem to agree, the simplicity of buying something and knowing it'll work and lower price. On PC unless you've got a high end rig like mine(pic related, so much for "console warrior") then you need to look at the recommended specs for every new game in addition to the platform.
And like you said, yes the people looking for convenience are a different market from the people who are serious about games, but the line between those categories is blurring because BUDGET phones that average people are buying since smartphones have become a necessity in the modern world are catching up. $200 for a decent one that'll game just fine, supports all the ar stuff pokemon go is pushing, plus the calls, texts, web browsing and social media people already get it for. Much more affordable than a PC like mine even without all the RGB and custom work. Same deal for other consoles vs PC but if current trends continue they could be in hot water some day too. If Nintendo wasn't aware of how much of their already more casual market are likely to game on phones and maybe come to prefer it they wouldn't be publishing so many mobile games.
