The uncontested success of Palworld means this franchise will go the way of Metroid, becoming a niche. This is a multimedia empire where the Aquilles heel has always been Masuda and Ishihara's indie studio where they got their fix for cocaine cash and money for hookers, never expecting it'd blow into the global success. That heel has been bleeding and can't heal, which is why it must be protected at all costs.
You do not understand that Palworld is just the beginning. Pokémon has held the monster-catching genre alone for almost 30 years. This situation is far more dire than, when, WoW briefly had an equal number of players than FF14: it involves BLATANT plagiarism, with people of multiple levels of expertise and entire media outlets siding with GameFreak and TPC. There is at MINIMUM a case of plausible deniability that Palworld ripped off trademarked designs by TPC, but only that. It is not a Digimon case: these are PAINFUL ripoffs, especially if Palworld starts signing merchandise without paying TPC.
This has to be decided to the satisfaction of a court. We are talking about an existential threat to a billion dollars franchise.
And the PR crisis for Pokémon? Ah, that is no issue. You will buy it anyway, that is how it has always been, it how it will always be.
