My question is if they’re really ancient pokemon, why wouldn’t they use actual ancient animals as reference? The biggest thing that sticks out about these mons is that they feel less like pokemon of the past or future and moreso pokemon that represent the idea of past and future. Like why would Game Freak be so hesitant to avoid, per say, a Wooly Mammoth variant of Donphan over just making it more feral and scruffy with Great Tusks?
