Coddity are found living by the sea. They walk and run across the sand dunes and shorelines at sunset, in very random and erratic patterns. This is seen by many as endearing and even inspiring. Coddity are very popular among both locals and tourists and even have a fan group. Scientists believe that they are the link between aquatic and land-dwelling Pokemon, though it is unknown why they stuck around into modern times. Their eggs are commonly found in beachgrass, unprotected by their parents. However, predators usually avoid the eggs, as they are very tough to break and offer very little nutritional value before hatching. When hatched, the Coddity all make a break for the water, sprinting as fast as their little legs can carry them. When they make contact with the water, they stop, turn around, and run back to the sand, where they make burrows and live with their siblings.
Cryptrout was initially believed to be a hoax- simply caught Coddity covered in fake fur. However, locals reported living sightings of the rare Pokemon, and soon Cryptrout was known all over the world. It is popular due to it's silky smooth and very clean white fur, and it's smug and pompous attitude, which many have described as "cute" or "funny". Researches have noted that it developed feline-like claws, as well as mannerisms similar big cat Pokemon like Persian or Purrloin. Cryptrout in the wild, while rare, tend to live in small packs- strangely with no Coddity at all. Females do the hunting while males laze about, usually cleaning their fur. It is unknown why Cryptrout abandon their eggs, but some believe that they view their furless, awkward offspring as inferior to themselves.
