Nexomon is absolutely a must play if you like Pokemon. It's basically a fan-made Pokemon game made by people who wanted to see QoL fixes in Pokemon.
>You have a choice of several starters, one of each typing
>Mons scale level with your party over time
>You can attach four orbs to each mon, one of them being EXP share so you can essentially chose the percentage of EXP you want clone for a non-active mon.
>You can rebattle trainers after 15 minutes, theirs parties level up as you progress through the story
>Catching mons has a bit of a minigame to it and it tells you the percentage catch rate before you throw the ball in case you want to do more stuff
>Lots of backtrack moments that are circumvented with NPCs going, "Would you like to go back now?"
>You can immediately branch off the story path and go to a few other towns after getting your first mon from the starter town
>Dex tells you what level each Mon evolves at (But doesn't tell you where they are located, unfortunately)
>Everything is catchable post-game, including every story-based legendary
I ended up playing Extinction (the sequel) first, and boy is it a fucking sequel. It makes constant references to the original game that went over my head. I figured, it's a Pokemon knock-off sequel, how much of the original do you really need to know? The answer is fucking everything. I still managed to follow it though, it's not a hard story to understand. A couple of criticisms is that the humor gets really cheesy and lame at times and some of the fights are a little too simple due to there being no dual-types.
