Or for Pokemon, it means metamorphosis which boosts stats and maybe changes your type, ability, and/or movepool. I wouldn't call that a goal, at least not in circumstances where someone wants one of the earlier stages of a Pokemon for some reason. Like to take advantage of Eviolite. Or to prove a point. Or because its evolution is horrible. Or it's Pikachu and the Trainer is an idiot.
