Yea I'm gonna be the devils advocate here and say all the 3DS versions have been mediocre in comparison with the older games.
We got people defending X/Y from left to right same with SUMO and ORAS.
They really fucked up when they started trying too hard with the "new gen" graphics. Yeah I get it it's time to modernize shit, I don't expect to be playing a 32 bit game forever but they focused on so many arbitrary shit for these 3DS games it reduced the actual game play too.
X/Y made me want to break my 3DS with the whole rollerblade thing and pathetic camera work. The whole let's all be friends and work together shit made the game a real bore. But yeah, if you wanna defend it saying how it was great for a transition game, sure.
R/S/E was a transition and an awesome one, D/P was executed fantastically. X/Y is what happened when you try too hard and try to aim for a different target audience.
ORAS I can't complain too much, it was decent.
SUMO is where they got their shit together but decided that the game should be 50% cinematics - fuck off. Pokemon has always been great with keeping the story short and powerful. Now I gotta download 2gigs of cutscenes too?
