Everything also had the opportunity for a critical, critical hits, critical learning, critical shop inventory, critical dungeon levels, critical rewards, critical enemies, critical missions, critical dungeon effects... (In a manner of speaking of course, but they all used the RNG for something special happening, so special on its own kinda undermines it IMO.)
Gates was worse in a lot of ways, but it certainly had its fair share of really sweet game elements. I quite liked it.
