The POGO craze from a few years ago was primarily nostalgiafag adults and normies using it as a Pokémon-themed Snapchat filter. They were drawn to it because of the Internet. Pokemania happened in the era before most people had cell phones or even Internet access in the home. Its popularity spread by word of mouth among kids. When was the last time probably 90% or more of kids were all obsessed with the same thing? It’s never happened before or since. Star Wars and Harry Potter are probably the next best things, but Star Wars always appealed more to boys, and Harry Potter was more for girls. Pokémon appealed to pretty much everyone in some way. Ironically, this sort of thing will never happen again because of the Internet. Now there’s always some new meme or fad that will get spread online that will make people forget about last week’s meme or fad. Nothing really has staying power like franchises did in the pre-Internet era. Back then, you pretty much had to choose whether you were a Pokémon kid or a Harry Potter kid, because the only toys and media you got were what your parents bought for you. You didn’t have a computer at home where you could just browse and watch any Pokémon content you wanted at any time. You watched the same episode of the Pokémon anime every other kid did, you played the same Pokémon Gameboy games every other kid did, and you begged your parents to buy the same Pokémon booster packs every other kid did.
