>>51660896Gen 1 rocket at least had the silph co building which can be blown through in 5 minutes if you know where to go.
Then it goes downhill with gen 2, you spend all that time in the mahogany hideout, spend 5 minutes in the ice gym, and then spend the next hour fighting 40+ grunts in goldenrod city. Gen 3's got that dumbass underwater cave that needs 5 HMs and has doorways that warp you to the start, gen 4's got a visually bland office building paired with Mt Coronet visit #5 (followed by distortion world but that's nothing more than a couple simple puzzles dragged out over 20ish minutes), and gen 5 never stops the Plasma spam throughout the game but at least the leader's the final boss.
They never know when to stop, and the climax is always some brainlet leader going "i'm gonna get the legendary because...i just am ok!" and then the game pretends there's huge stakes behind it but you never feel it at any moment
save for icy Opilucid in BW2 because you know they're never going to accomplish much of worth with the legendary before you swoop in and annihilate their team. They even had cutscenes of ultra beasts escaping into alola in gen 7 but not a single person ever mentions it. There's no reason to care about anything happening outside of "at least after this i can play the game again."
And the leader teams, oh man. Almost always garbage, usually with a crobat, gyarados, or both, and easily cleaned through with some electric type. At least the GC games made the leaders and admins feel like threats.
