They added a female hiker only to make her some butch lesbian looking motherfucker. gamefreak ditched moe aesthetic that populated the 3DS games and gen 5, and they definitely don't have the ability to make iconic nostalgic designs like they did in gen 1-4. Even the pokemon designs are way too cartoony and underdesigned for furfags to care. The game has no consistent aesthetic and looks ugly as shit so naturally jp artists aren't going to give a shit and western artists already aren't worth following so the game is pretty dead in the water in terms of fan art and rule 34.
