In alchemy, Azoth is God's essence, is life, death, evolution, nature, cosmos, universal solvent, immortality, healing, the Philosopher stone. Azoth is made by 5 planets (that 5 mon?) also 3 bases:
King Sol, the Soul (represented by sun), Queen Luna, the Spirit (represented by moon) and Corpus, the body (represented by a cube, like Zygarde cube, which is used to form Zygarde's body). Corpus should be "perfect", hermaphrodite (a "complete human", man + woman), that's why Zygarde have red and blue wings, represent Yveltal (Y chromosome, man) and Xerneas (X chromosome, woman).
Also there is more alchemy about they, dragons and wolves (Forme 10%) represent solvents in alchemy. Snakes are obviously linked to inmortality and rebirth.
The green lion devouring the sun represent metal purity (Solgaleo's Steel type) and life (like Xerneas), skeleton represent metal corruption, putrefaction, demise (Lunala's Ghost type) and death (like Yveltal).

Zygarde is where all comes together. It closed chest looks like the french flag (Kalos), open looks like the hawaiian rainbow (Alola). Rainbow represent life-death connected too, because is a rainbow (named Bifrost) that connect Midgar (mortal world, regular world, X plane, Xerneas realm) and Asgard (godly world, high world, Y plane, Yveltal realm), also rainbow is diversity too, different colors, light spectrum, the complete spectrum, a complete existence.

The never debunked chinese leaks says Marshadow is just a mythical pokemon, seems like a Magearna "counterpart". Magearna is a living copy of Ultimate weapon, so is related to Xerneas-Yveltal. Marshadow would be just a mythical related to Solgaleo-Lunala.
