>>53271738>Yeah RBY is subtle in that the protags are extremely generic and dullGuess it's just a personal taste thing then. I mean this whole thread is obviously but to me they actually come off as legit people instead of like. Stereotypes first and foremost. I can kinda get into Red etc. as soon as the story starts instead of being put off by the weird personality gimmicks
One thing I'll give credit for the RGBY arcs re: Blue/Green (the girl) is that this is an instance of the invented personality actually fitting harmoniously with the original design. Like she's kinda crafty + sorta flirts to con people and so has a little black dress and gloves. That's not the personality I'd instantly expect from a game protagonist but it fits the design very well.
Maybe it's just because the original design is already so strong that that was a more natural conclusion to come to, though.
>The story also diverges massively from the gamesI feel like that was kind of the name of the game with Special for a while. I'm not crazy about every divergence but like I get the need for it even if a lot of the leaders being not-secretly evil feels dumb.
>>53271753I don't remember that at all from the anime but I'd believe it happened. It's a dumb trope in general, yeah, unless it gets seriously explored which most works don't bother to do.
