I disagree with the common opinion that Sinnoh's elite 4 is bland. I think their simplicity, in a counterintuitive way, really sets them apart. They don't quite embody their type in the same way as other specialists. There's no deep connection or devotion to a type, no underlying philosophy or mysticism. They are where they are because they are really fucking good at battling. Sure, every elite 4 has that one member who's "just really good", but none embody the idea as wholly as Sinnoh's. To me at least, this leaves a greater impression than a series of glorified gym leaders.
But then Aaron sends out a fucking Beautifly and all that goes out the window.
