Both manga made it a little rough around the edges, added danger, crazy scenarios and cool battles.

yeah they were just a tamagochi variant that were made to be specifically for boys. But in world 1 everything was a digimon, NPCs, enemies, and your one digimon companion thus the ethics aren't the same as pokemon's. As a human, the player is the odd-one out.

Didn't take off because many of the games were locked behind the wonderswan being region locked (had several rpgs on there) and everyone claiming it was a rip-off because they just had mon in the title.

A huge improvement from r/b, but still not the best. It didn't encapsulate the adventure.

Both manga encapsulated an interesting adventure, there was no need for headcannon rumors,etc. It was all there plain and simple. Instead of being disappointed by the games over and over again I turned to other Jrpgs with stories and gameplay more similar to the manga such as Legend of Mana, Arc the Lad and BOF. Some of them even had monster capturing/raising that was far superior to pokemon's.
The only games that truly captured the adventurous spirit of the anime and manga were the mystery dungeon titles
