Assuming each new generation has 400 pokemon, the BEST case scenario is that there is no overlap with the previous generation.
Realistically the next gen will probably include the 80 gen 8 pokemon to give players a sense of pride and accomplishment
This leaves 240 slots for returning pokemon
In other words it could be 2 or 3 generations before your favorite is deemed usable again by Masuda, in the BEST cast scenario.
The pokemon you catch in each generation will likely only be usable for 2 gens MAX before they get boxed out of rotation for another 2 to 3 generations
