The fact that no future protagonist will ever reach a goal as high as Ash's is kind of depressing when you think about it. Sure, the Pokemon World is vast and characters can have different goals like becoming the best at stand-up comedy, the best at Pokemon breeding, a doctor, a cook, and so on but Pokemon is a franchise centered around battling. Becoming the strongest is the end goal of the franchise. In that sense Ash already achieved the pinnacle of what Pokemon is. But who knows, maybe in another 50 years when we have 8 new generations the Anime will do another World Championship Master 8 type of arc with the new MC. But by then Lance-Leon will be long gone and we'll all be dead.
