When you scrap an idea, you completely remove it from the game. It's OK to leave it in the games file, but shit like pic related is unacceptable. Don't make branches in the path if you can't let the player go this way, it's misleading and retarded, just make the path go straight to the stairs, maybe you'll see how fucking bland your overworld is.
It never happened before in pokemon, and I don't know of any game of the same caliber that ever did this, by that I mean subtly implying there's more to the game than what you're allowed to see.
Not to mention all of the closed doors, and even fucking textured doors you find in the game.
