I've been rewatching Kanto and Orange episodes, and it's amazing who varied and out there could some plots be. Like the Ghost Festival, it had no relations to the games, to the plot, had no TR blastoff, and a weird super-Ghastly as a villain. Or the OI fillers, like introducing shiny Pokemon, Crystal Onix, or Butch and Cassidy making Pikachu revolt against Ash via mind control (Ash fucking tanked enraged Pokemon's attacks that episode)
