IQ skills are less grindy and each pokemon can have 1 Rare Quality, which affects everyone on the current team. and includes stuff like multihits always hitting for their maximum amount of hits, all food eaten refilling all hunger, that sort of thing.
The level 1 dungeons also require strategies that aren't "bro just use alakazam/kecleon" and the ability to have up to 8 pokemon on your team (3 entering+5 recruits) means up to 8 different Rare Qualities to get you through the dungeons, though it can be a bit of a mess sometimes. Still it's pretty cool being able to show up to shit like Zapdos and just mob it.
