Welcome back to the Krookodile Hunter. Today, we've got a real treat for you, as we examine the forced displacement of water types en masse from Southern Hoenn due to a newly introduced infestation of Toxicroak and croagunk. Normally a home for water types of all species, the southern Hoenn ponds and rivers have been overrun with ferocious fighting frogs, territorial water inhabitants that are not themselves water types, despite being amphibians.
Originally native to Sinnoh Great Marsh but now prevalent in other regions due to globalization, Toxicroak prove significant threats to aquatic ecosystems. Immune to the water type attacks that are most aquatic pokemon's only line of defence, the frogs easily displaced all other fresh water inhabitants from the region. Even Crawdaunt, rare and exceptionally powerful species, were forced to leave due to Toxicroak's powerful secondary fighting type. For reference, Crawdaunt are nearly as strong as the Darmanitan of Unova, and can become even stronger in the rain.
The only pokemon unbothered by the frogs are the Mudkip and barboach lines. Ironically, though they hail from the great marsh, the Toxicroak line's weakness to ground attacks gives them an extreme aversion to mud, which the mudkip line as their name suggests is happy to supply. Watch as this Swampert here drowns the approaching croagunk in mud as it continues to beat them with its powerful fists. Lucky it did too, if the swampert hadn't responded in time, it could have found itself paralyzed with venom and subsequently beaten.
That's all the time we have today, tune in tomorrow with our follow up, where we examine the effects of Crawdaunt migrating towards the coast on the local magikarp population.
