I've never had to fight a wild pokemon for a reason unrelated to grinding or just a random encounter before, it's so neat.
I've played a few hours, and the whole thing is like that. Hot-swapping moves, gaining pokedex ranks by having mons you need to evolve in your party to level them, farming geodudes for grit sand to max my starter's EVs– it's so much more of an rpg than previous games.
