The whole story being about their bonds, with at least two of the girls crushing on Keiichi, and the crush being a super important character point for one of them (Mion, like Serena I guess, but for different reasons), and Rena also being into him too, with them having all those big moments together

And they all married faceless randoms, their children grow up as almost 1:1 friends just like they are, and their childhood crushes never mentioned again. They're all just bros 4 life. Even Mion had a child with some guy that was never shown or talked about in any capacity. And Keiichi's wife is some random whose face is forbidden to ever be shown. Don't let me get started on Rena being a divorced single mom, either.
It surprises me they allowed Satoshi and Shion to get together, though. And even then, they're childless in their 40s.
