Amateur Dev here. I actually considered making something just like this. The plan was to make something that played like a nuzlocke run that was relentlessly hard. In aesthetic it'd be something like Pokemon and Lisa the painful put in a blender. I had a gimmick planned with copious amounts of drug abuse.
Is there a market for a game like that? Also wanted it to be 'as close to pokemon as I can possibly get it without nintendo suing me.'
