I resent the fact that fairy was introduced as a shotgun to solve a problem, and not as a creative addition to the world and systems.
Fairy as a general purpose mythical creature type is a useful idea that opens cool possibilities for the series, and specifically the association with fairies as opposed to a "magic type" implies a support role, which would have been interesting to base a type around, but it wasn't allowed to be that because it exists as a shotgun for the dragon problem, and it would be bad at doing this if it didn't have moonblast and play rough, along with strong STAB users like mega mawile and sylveon.
I think it's cool that Pokemon has a handful of types that don't exist in any other game's elemental system, Ghosts and Dragons and Bugs and Fairies have no inherent reason to be given a separate type, but they do, and in three of those cases it really helps to make the pokemon in those types feel unique from the ones outside of them. Even the prompt of combining those types leads to cool pokemon, just check out all the fakemon designs for bug/dragons. Fairy also leads to cool and interesting designs even officially, two of my favorite pokemon are fairy type despite my gripes here.
