Make sure to have a #00 Phillips head around if you've have a N3Ds, there's no way to access your SD card without one.
Ive been using PKSM since it's latest update, it's as likely as PkHex to end up with an illegal mon, provided you aren't an absolute retard job doesn't check if a move is an Egg move. Oh, and it automatically sets the met location, and have their own trainer memories, so it's easier in some ways.
Provided the Pokémon is legal, the PKSM will assign it the date it was created as it's egg date, and, if it's illegal, it'll be the first of February.
I run every pokemon I make through PkHex afterwards, just to be safe, but it's actually pretty decent at authenticity.
You can also fill out QR requests without downloading any copyrighted material through setting up the wireless transfer feature, then you just open up the QR in PkHex, make any changes necessary (looking at you Mega-stone beggars, seriously, you can read, but not the fucking part that says they aren't tradeable) to it, then just send it to your box, easy peesy.
