Pokemon Red version here, back when I was about 8 years old I think. I don't remember how long it took me, I'd say about 20 in game hours.
The last battle was as intense as it could get to me that's why I'll always remember exactly how it went down.
My team was pretty balanced, consisting of:
Venasaur, Nidoking, Tentacruel, Zapdos, Jolteon and I think Kabutops?
The fight against Lance was pretty intense but I didn't feel satisfied for some reason. Sure he almost took down every Pokemon except for Venasaur and Tentacruel but still.
That's when our beloved Gary MF Oak showed himself and I knew what was about to happen.
I did surprisingly well and the mood really got the best out of me. (Epic theme + battle animations)
That's when I noticed something - my battery almost dying. He sent out his Charizard and I got it sleep powdered...suddenly my battery died.
I was close to crying since I thought I'd never make it that far again and that this battle was blessed with incredible luck anyway.
I maned the fuck up, but in new batteries and challanged Gary again. He took down Venasaur, I used my last revive and sacrificed Tentacruel. Everything went kina good again but there was yet another obstacle. This time I expierienced something I never thaught of before: running out of ap. I never got to this point but now during the final battle it was about to happen. Again, I sleep powdered Charizard with my last AP.
I literally thought to myself: "We struggeled for so long and now I can't even make the final attack because there are no ap left."
Venasaur used struggle.
