There was only one substantive difference I found between translations. In Japanese, Team Rocket compliments the trainers' Pokeblock before May, while in English, they do so backhandedly. Maybe there's a nuance to the Japanese that doesn't translate well through text that I'm missing though; my understanding is that Japanese tends to be a much more passive aggressive language.
Also I'm guessing the subbing group was using TV rips? The dimensions of the video file are bigger than the English VHS rips I'm using from a torrent, but the English looks a bit cleaner and less bright/washed out. Might just be an NTSC/PAL thing too. I don't know the technicals that well.
