Decided to swap out one of Aspen's mons. Meet Asahi the Ribombee. Asahi is particularly drawn to alcohol as a result of a minor mutation in a particular gene, whose orthologs (equivalents) in humans has the same effect. Asahi was bred in preparation for a project using Cutiefly to study alcoholism, but funding fell through and Aspen hasn't heard from his previous boss since. He sure hopes the arrest and investigation of someone for breeding 'Sonic Hedgehog-over-expressing Pikachu' didn't involve anyone he knew, or ever reaches him. He's decided to take Asahi with him since, and any recent cases of breweries being swarmed by a recent generation of Cutiefly has absolutely nothing to do with him.
This has basis in reality, as fruit flies are used as models for research on alcoholism, and orthologs in fly alcoholism-related genes have also been lined to humans.
>Home is typically where the heart is, so where does your character live when they're not out and about?
His home is in Slateport, and probably extremely messy, filled with old notes and computing equipment that's long been rendered irrelevant. There is no need to look in the basement freezer. There is nothing there, and hasn't been since the last lab shutdown.
