His whole gimmick is that he copies pikachu because he wants to be loved, and I would make him feel loved. The whole "looking under the costume will kill you" thing is just the pokedex being bullshit, like how the dex says that looking in to the hole in the back of Shedinja will steal your soul, even though you see the back during fights.
