The story takes you throughout the region where you need to deliver certain pokemon to different towns. Pokemon in the game are pretty limited, maybe 300 in total? There are a bunch of new Pokemon too, like this bird and a sick looking lion. Pretty much, it's open world and you are the adventurer of the region and when people need Pokemon, you deliver them. You meet Professor Rowen's like great grandpa or something, and he wants to learn more about chimchar, piplup, and turtwig (that's why they're the modern starters)
Sinnoh is actually the newest region discovered, so a lot of the pokemon are originally from other regions, especially Unova.
I think at the end of the game, Arceus is in the middle of creating the lake trio (because people have started to inhibit his home region) and he wants his lakes to be protected (Arceus loves the lakes). He also creates Palkia, as a god of the the seas, to watch over the lake guardians. He makes Dialga (who people think is Arceus) to lure people of of his region. Girantina was supposed to be Arceus turning some normal Pokemon into a god of all dimensions, but somehow he gets trapped in his own dimension.
We have only been discussing the story for the past week, so this is all I know about now. Game should be super fun! I'll update you guys if they show/tell us more :)
