Cyrus grew up in Sunyshore and the game makes numerous references to the fact he's a legitimate sociopath/autist. Between his only real "friend" being Rotom and his opinion on the human spirit being some sort of vague bullshit he doesn't believe in it makes sense that his goal is just to create a world where he and only himself can live in so that everything could make sense for him. Galactic is very transparent about how they were all told different things that drove them to join the team, and Platinum expands on this with him openly admitting to just being a PR guy to get the means to where he needs to go. Unlike Lysandre he doesn't try to be what his grunts are, he very clearly plans to betray them and Platinum is equally as good at fleshing this out as XY was with Lysandre.
