An alien bacterial organism that came to earth dormant in a comet. It can survive in extremely cold temperatures, poison/ice (we're lacking in ice types anyways)
gives it a reason to have the disticntly crystal-shaped head that bacteriophages are known for, still keeps the alien tripod motif and also has some inspiration from frostbite/hypothermia, comets and extermophiles (microscopic organisms that that thrive in extreme heat or cold)
