Alolan Dugtrio does nothing actually creative with the idea behind Pele's hair, it just slaps it on as a funny wig. I don't completely hate it because I do find it pretty funny but I do still dislike how awfully lazy it is. They could have done all kinds of volcano motifs mixed in with the hair since Pele's hair is hair-like molten rock but no. They just slap the hair on it and do nothing else. They don't even have a tan unless they're shiny. Just hair and black rocks.
Alolan Diglett is even fucking worse since it only has three strands. Forget bad, it shouldn't even exist! It should've just been regular Diglett evolving into a better executed Alolan Dugtrio.
Alolan Exeggutor was a better funny Alola Form since palm trees actually are really tall and they bother to add details like giving it a tail so the Dragon typing is ever so slightly more than just a pun and so it can realistically hear a trainer's instructions along with making its expressions more energetic to reflect its supposedly original, proper growth.
tl;dr they did nothing clever with it and just relied on memelord appeal to make it pass as a "good design"
