In lab experiments scientists have tried a number of methods to separate Paras from its fungal parasite. Each of these attempts have resulted in failure and extensive research has revealed the follow:
First, Paras cannot survive without the fungal growth as its internal organs will begin to shut down. Secondly, even cloned Paras are born infected and so it is believed that the two organisms have actually evolved so close a symbiotic union that the fungal parasite has attached its own DNA to that of its host.
