Pic related is the first time I ever did it on a whim in my 2nd playthrough of Pearl on cartridge. You basically "link" the types of adjacent Pokemon in each party slot to have shared weaknesses and potentially use Pokemon you wouldn't normally use otherwise.
Ignoring the fact I used Palkia in my first attempt, it's pretty easy to do in the vanilla games, most difficulty clauses or whatever can work with it, but I think it's best done with romhacks and randomizers.
