Pokemon aren't "enslaved"; they can actually leave at any time, but the vast majority of them stay because they either respect their trainer or see them as a tool to become stronger. Pokemon trained by Humans are always stronger and grow faster.

A Psychic trainer is going to train and raise psychic Pokemon because he can personally understand the depth and mechanics of these creatures abilities via his own personal experience and abilities- He may even grow more powerful and learn from them as well. Like wise since he's mono-typing he'll be able to more easily: feed, groom and keep them healthy.
Could you imagine how difficult it would be to feed your diverse group of well balanced Pokemon types?
Or for that matter know the specifics of each typings physiology to even know if they're healthy or not in the first place?
