If GF was merely looking for a gimmick to have an iconic gimmick for the franchise then sure that's how it should work.
In reality however, GF searches out gimmicks just to have something new, not necessarily something consistent or iconic (or good). Because of this they'll always be looking into a new representation of 'cool'. Mega, Ash-Gren, Giga/Dyna, and what may come next.
