>>42969449From the GBA games on regional flavor and mechanical variety seem pretty either-or; you want more Pokemon to differentiate the experience and more earlier to lessen the sting of some showing up too late to fit into your time (though higher wild levels do offset this), but once you do that all your trainers take Pokemon from the entire pool and you might as well not be playing any individual Pokemon game anymore. Part of it does depend on how well you can make characters original Pokemon work.
