I hope they got the memo. I hope they wake the fuck up. But I get the feeling so long as they keep raking in this amount of money, they're not going to have a whole lot of incentive to raise the bar. We've seen it many times with previous Pokemon games where interesting new features are added and they don't wind up coming back, or are gimped when they do come back. It almost seems as if they intentionally keep the bar low so they don't have to worry about outdoing themselves in the next game. Keep expectations low, provide a middling, bare minimum experience, and just keep feeding the same product so long as people keep buying it. I hope you're right anon. It's not schizo to hold on to some hopium, but my reserves went empty a long time ago.
