The problem is both people like you who only play the games from where they started forward without giving the older ones a fair chance, and people who only play the old games refusing to accept the changes and directions of the new games long enough to give them a fair chance.
Games don't have expiration dates. A good game will still be a good game no matter how much time passes as long as the person assessing its quality is fair in accepting the limitations of the time and understanding of the charms of it. You can say you dislike them due to how much they show their age, but if you use that as an argument against the quality of the product when it did not initially affect the product from being enjoyed, you're merely showing your bias and ignorance.

Johto is my favorite region to this day.
White 2 barely beat out SoulSilver as my favorite game.
I have played every main series Pokemon game to date the entire way through, and I actually dislike the region I've played most which is Hoenn. I played it the most since most romhacks use it as a base,
but I've also played the vanilla originals before that.
