Decided to deal with the two biggest obstacles before Surge in one fell swoop:
>WhitneyAgain, this is where I wish this romhacker didn't try to be funny. Whitney making jokes about guys wanting feet pics from her just feels really out of place. Anyway, I actually decided to forego Ciel, just because its low stats were really, really worrying.
There's not a ton to say about Whitney. She has a Wigglytuff, her signature Miltank, a Vigoroth, and a very unexpected Indeedee. Aria destroyed the Wigglytuff, and I sent in a newly evolved Horace on the Miltank to set up a leech seed before it got me surprisingly low with an Ice Punch (in hindsight, very stupid, could have had Sap Sipper). So I went to Irey to set up Iron Defenses, then ChestoResto'd off its Stomping Tantrums, Vigoroth and Miltank both had healing moves, but Heavy Metal with Heavy Slam is way too strong. Indeedee landed a Mystical Fire but it didn't even do half before getting one shot.
After winning, I get some pretty useless Moomoo Milks (again, can't use bag items in battle) but a very useful Eviolite, so maybe Ciel will see some use after all.
The SS Anne seems largely unedited, bar a Rock Polish TM and obviously the trainers. However while going through, the literal last trainer on the ship, a Sailor, brought a Meditite who critted Cedric the Pansage with a Hi Jump Kick and killed him from near full ;(. I brought him along specifically to grind off water types too, rest in peace buddy.
The main rival bizarrely isn't here, I'm guessing because of the added Brendan battle. But that's Cut and potentially the option to go to Celadon/Saffron early. I think I'll still fight Surge first as that's more interesting and probably necessary for level cap shenanigans.
