not even just their writing, but how they speak, how they present themselves. either so comically silly that they could never be taken seriously as a threat, often comically evil for literally no apparent reason at all (i'm sure v14 will finally explain some things :^)) before often the game gets you to try and sympathize with them, or bland and one note and just starts talking in a bunch of shitty riddles to try and come off as halfway interesting
i think zetta might be the only one who doesn't fall into those categories, and of course he gets killed under halfway through and got worse in newer updates
