>>43883106It's a total shame that TPCI didn't even attempt to bring over the older voice actors. I know some were still in contracts with 4Kids, and there were rumors of certain union/industry rules that would have been some big obstacles to surpass if true (along with location of the actors), but IIRC Eric Stuart said that a lot of the cast was still interested in voicing their roles but that TPCI didn't even attempt at keeping them (even replacing them under their own noses.) The only exception was Gary Mother Fuckin' Oak, who's never been voiced by a different actor in any dub appearance.
I've heard the newer dub voices, and for newer characters it's not outrageously bad (or no worse than your average anime dub) but any returning cast is incredibly bad, but I've gotten used to Ash over time. Team Rocket though (and to a lesser extent, Brock), are passable imitations, but it still sounds like they're doing silly voices pretending to be the characters rather than actually acting as the characters. Misty was my favorite character from the anime, and when she returned and wasn't voiced by Rachael Lillis, part of me was a little hurt.
As someone that hasn't kept up though, do the actual Pokemon sound different (at least the ones that aren't just animal sounds or un-dubbed)? I'd imagine with certain voice actors leaving they'd have to be, unless they just have enough recorded in the backlog to use forever.
