When Pokemon was released, a large number of the 'mega' fans in the 90's were effectively defective kids. Some were fat, some had divorced parents, some had a dad that sexually abused them, others parent's ruined their personality by parents who bought them their every whim. The point is, that core Pokemon fanbase a coalescence of mentaly and emotionally fucked up folk who are attracted to Pokemon because THEY get to be the leader, THEY get to be the hero, THEY are the most powerful being on that tiny ROM cartridge. And Gamefreak had no problems exploiting them, until now, when that same group, those who didn't kill themselves, are now defective, disturbed adults.
Now, I have a feeling the Japanese fanbase is similar, if not, effectively the same. And Gamefreak just denied a solid chunk of these folk their only desire, take their fav pokemon from the last 7 generations and feel like THEY are in control of Galar. They took that control away from them by Gamefreak telling them 'you don't get to bring friends'. And a few of these folk are probably broken enough to literally explode on any prominent Gamefreak employee. And if it's anything else we know, the Japanese do not fuck around.
