But Steel since its introduction has invalidated Rock as a defensive typing, it's quite simply "Rock, but better". What Rock resists, Steel does too AND more like that key Poison immunity or even now a Fairy resistance.
Which only leaves the question of why Rock still exists? It should have just been merged with Ground to form an "Earth" or "Terra" typing when Steel was made.
Currently, being a Rock is almost as much as a bad crutch as being an Ice type, most Rock types do the exact same shit and the good ones like Tyrannitar are good because of their amazing movepools or stats.
Fairy may have been necessary but really:
-Dragon was a meh attacking and defensive type, the problem was most Dragons at the time were legendaries or pseudos.
-GF won't stop making shitty Ice types when being the "Dragon-slaying" type other than Dragon itself was sort of its niche
-some other third thing
Dragon is like a bad type on powerful Pokemon, but Fairy is like a good type on weak Pokemon, with outliers on both sides. But to me, it seems like Fairies have become just obnoxious as Dragons so it's like trading one problem for another.
