Reminder that Yokai Watch outsold Pokémon in Japan in 2014, so they spent 2015/16 scrambling to make Pokémon more like Yokai Watch (artstyle shift in gen 7, the Rotom Dex just being bootleg Whisper, greater focus on story, the anime shifting from the formula it had used for almost 20 years to a slice of life comedy).
